NTNP Nurse Practitioners of the Year

Sara Wick, RN, MSN, GNP
I, Dr. Brancaccio, have worked with Sara since January, 2003. I
have been impressed with Sara since my first days in clinic. She
is very bright, and handles complex medical issues with ease. At
the same time, she is able to address the social and emotional
issues of her patients with compassion and respect. Sara is a
leader in our clinic and a great resource for other providers
and staff; our clinic staff truly enjoys working with her.
I, Dr. Kirk, have had the good fortune to work with Sara Wick
for the past 20 years. Sara’s clinical skills are excellent and
her patients adore her. I would not hesitate to have Sara care
for me or a member of my family. Her excellent interpersonal
skills greatly facilitate her interactions with patients, their
families and other health care professionals. She works very
hard to assure her elderly patients don’t fall through some of
the gaps that are common in our health care system. It is a
pleasure to care for her patients on the inpatient service,
because she provides all the information from their outpatient
care that is needed and provides prompt follow-up care after
their discharge. Sara’s knowledge and skills would allow her to
excel no matter where she worked, but she has chosen to spend
her career at Parkland. Her dedication to this institution and
our patients is phenomenal. She serves as an excellent role
model for other providers and for the students and residents
that we teach. Sara is nationally certified with ANCC. She is a
member of NTNP, TNP and AANP. She as served as secretary and
chair of NTNP in the past. She has been involved with numerous
APN committees at Parkland over the years, including a founding
member of the Advanced Practice Council, assisting with the
career ladder development and implementation and peer review for
NPs at Parkland. Sara has spoken locally and nationally on the
role of the NP, peer review for APNs, preventive care and
geriatric issues. Sara is a guest lecturer at both TWU and UTSW.
She is active in the community with the Dallas Farmers Market
and ECO theater.

Christopher Fowler, PhD, RN, CS, ACNP
Chris currently works at Methodist Dallas
Medical Center as the Director of Transplant operations. He
balances the oversight of the Transplant program with patient
management and education as well as staff education. In addition
to his full time position, Chris is also an Assistant professor
at the University of Texas at Arlington. He teaches in the
graduate and undergraduate programs and acts as preceptor to NP
students. Chris loves education and especially passing on to
others what he has learned. He has authored numerous articles
and has an extensive lecture record. He’s a great coach and
motivator and creates an ideal setting for others to flourish as
a new graduate. He continues to encourage those around them to
continue their educational journey, write an article, or make a
presentation.
Chris serves as Treasurer for the North Texas Nurse
Practitioners association and is very active in this
organization. He has worked with other NTNP team members to
organize local conferences at the area and state level. He is
active in other organizations such as the International Liver
Transplant Society, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners,
Sigma Theta Tau, and the American Association of Critical Care
Nurses.
Most importantly, Chris exemplifies those qualities we would
most like to see in a Nurse Practitioner. He has a positive
outlook and a great attitude, he looks for opportunities to
improve his surroundings, he continues to expand his knowledge
base and he shares his knowledge with others. He is a great
example and a wonderful mentor.
